As technology accelerates the pace of life, I find it comforting to return to the more analog world of rodeos, carnivals, and local fairs when the dog days of summer arrive. These places represent a slice of Americana, although certainly not everyone’s idea of American values and ideals. I feel a bit of nostalgia at these events and the sense of another summer passing by much too quickly. But summer will return along with these quaint traditions that are an enduring part of the American landscape.
