An interesting face, a mysterious look, an unexpected gesture—not a selfie but a Portrait. Portraits work when I collaborate with the person on the other end of the camera in an open and honest manner without a preconceived outcome. And then either it happens or it doesn’t. When it works there is a momentary intimacy between photographer and subject in creating a mood, feeling, or idea beyond a person’s mere likeness or identity. Portraits are timeless and an important visual record of the human experience.
